Imagine “Saturday Night Live” in Hebrew, and you will have “Eretz Nehederet (What a Wonderful Country)” – Israel’s beloved comedy sketch-show.

For several years over many seasons, “Eretz Nehederet” has entertained Israelis each weekend after the week’s all-too-serious news programs. Many of the sketches have become classics – young Israelis in India just after their army service and the Angry Birds more recently, among many others!

Regardless of one’s political beliefs, it is always easy – and necessary – to see the humor in any topic involving a country that is facing so many serious issues. Nothing is sacred to “Eretz Nehederet,” and the show satirizes and pokes fun at anything and everyone from the left to the right. Another recent sketch had Benjamin Netanyahu and Ehud Barak serenading each other on a piano. While some Americans believe that “Saturday Night Live” has not been funny for years, “What a Wonderful Country” has always been consistently hilarious, courtesy of a team of Israel’s top comedians and TV writers. In Israel, what is shown on “Eretz Nehederet” on Friday (and Saturday) night is what people will be discussing while making coffee at work on Sunday. Season 10: The great satire program returns for the final alignment covering the 2013 Elections. Liat Har Lev will be joining this season to the regular cast and the season will get to its climax on the night of the elections with live broadcast.
